Ivy’s Twisted Vine is the largest Interracial Romance Novel (BW/WM) Ever!

Posted in Media, Personal Thoughts by Administrator on the February 16th, 2008

I’ve always loved I/R novels.  However, they were always over before I could start them.  I have literally found myself panting over the next book that would come out by some of the great I/R authors.  Then, while in college a personal experience inspired me to write a book myself.  Having been an avid reader of all things fiction, I wanted to create a piece that was extensive in nature and somewhat different from the norm.

So, I authored Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  From my research, my book is the longest IR novel ever written.  It spans 616 pages.  I don’t just fill it with fluff either (as one of my readers explained to me).  I wanted to follow my heroine through the many parts of her life, because like so many of us there is a powerful back story that creates the actions and reactions of the character.

So far, I have received about 1,000 requests for Ivy’s Twisted Vine and the book has only been available to the general public for one week. This is such a blessing! I truly hope that you too will consider purchasing this novel.  I also love feedback.  One thing that I’m devoted to doing is calling in when people have a book club meeting and speaking with them via speaker phone or if you’re in driving distance coming out and speaking with you directly.  I never charge for these sessions, because I feel that this is the way to satisfy the readers in terms of the interaction with the author and in order to write a stronger book in the future.

I just wanted to share with you today that my book, Ivy’s Twisted Vine, is the largest IR novel out to date.  Also, I want the whole world to experience the epic romance that is extremely unconventional.

For those of you on this site who have purchased my book, thank you so much.  And if you have feedback to share, you can always contact me at contact@LatriviaNelson.com

Have a great one!

Interracial Romance Novel, Ivy’s Twisted Vine is now available for purchase!

It’s 11:27 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.  I’m lying in my bed with my mouth swollen after a very grueling oral surgery appointment yesterday, where the surgeon removed 6 wisdom teeth. That’s right people. Count’em 1.2.3.4.5.6!  I’m preparing myself for the next big step of braces.  Yeah.  By my 30th birthday, only three years off, I’ll have beautiful, pearly white teeth.

But that is not why I’m in a good mood tonight.  I’ve had hell for a day.  Let me be the first to tell you.  But just when I thought that today would end on a severely sour note, the Lord sent me a huge gift.  I went online to check my emails after I finished my homework, and there it was…a letter from my freaking agent Pam Jay letting me know that I am now a published author.

Ahh…  This is better than a Snickers and Coke, fried chicken and jalapenos, a hot milk bath, even better than a brand new 525i BMW, which by the way is my new toy.  This means that I have finally completed a thought, ladies and gentleman!  I know!  I know! But please hold your applaud.  I need to savor this moment.  Soak it up and let it drench me in pure ecstasy.  Because tomorrow….

Tomorrow it will be time to sell these babies!  That’s right.  For only $21, your order can be placed and you two can have a copy of the steamy, sexy, unconventional, interracial romance Ivy’s Twisted Vine!!!!

Remember that if you purchase from my site, you’ll receive an autographed copy mailed directly to your home.  However, you can always go to www.authorhouse.com and enter Ivy’s Twisted Vine to purchase this book through my publishing house.  That’s for those who are a little too anxious to wait.  But by all means, get it how and when you can.

A special note to everyone. This book will be available at BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com in 30-45 days.  It takes that long for them to get all of the paperwork cleared through AuthorHouse.  But I will be sending everyone special reminders to let them know.

Thanks again,

Word is Spreading about Interracial Novel, Ivy’s Twisted Vine

Posted in Media, Personal Thoughts by Administrator on the February 5th, 2008

Have any of you every googled yourself?  I did.

Just the other night, I wanted to see if there were additional articles about Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  So, I am sitting at the kitchen table with my laptop, a cup of tea and an apple, pecking at the keyboard and daydreaming.  I type it in the entry box.  Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  The keypad makes the usually clunky noise and then I push enter.  Less than a second later, Google gives me three pages of articles and conversations about MY BOOK!  ME. ME.  YEAH!!!

Words cannot express how excited I was and still am.  You see, some people involved in a test market reading were given the book.  And these people along with others who read excerpts are responding online about their experience with Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  Others, hundreds in fact, have logged on to the website and read excerpts for themselves.

For the first time, I understand what it’s like to read a critic’s response to a person’s work and feel elated.  Everyone had good points to put out there.  And I want to engage them all in conversation, but I can’t.  So just keep reading, so full that I can barely breathe.

People, this can only mean good things for Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  All across American, Ivy’s Twisted Vine will be in people’s backpacks, cars, purses, etc.  All across America, people will read my work.  I took many years out of my life to write this, because I wanted someone to sit down and open this book and feel something by the time that they closed it.  It looks like for some, this mission was accomplished.

Today, I’m doing homework and assignments for my two wonderful professors and trying to push past a gall bladder problem and an oral surgery.  Last week it was my stomach, this week, it’s my teeth.  Hey, life moves on though.  I have to stay focused.  But I just wanted to express how elated I am to be a part of this experience.

And don’t forget, the book will be out around Valentine’s Day.  As I get more word from my publishers, you all will be the first to know.  Also, please remember that for everyone who purchases books from my site, I make sure to include an autograph thanking you for your support.

Well, it’s off to what I can do in a drug-induced haze.  The doctors have assured me that I will be better in about one more week.  So, you’ll hear more from me then.

Good luck to everyone and their candidates on this SUPER TUESDAY.
Sincerely,

Latrivia Nelson

Interracial Romance Novel, Ivy’s Twisted Vine on Sale Valentine’s Day 2008

Posted in Media, Personal Thoughts by Administrator on the January 26th, 2008

 Hello World,

It is two weeks before the big drop of my book, Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  It will be out just in time for Valentine’s Day for those of you who don’t know what to give to that special someone, lonely someone or just that anybody that you feel enjoys a good read.  And it’s only $21 on my site (www.latrivianelson.com).  I promise to autograph every book that is ordered via my site.  It’s a great way to develop a closer relationship with my readers.

With the word getting out about the book, people have been asking, “why an interracial romance novel?” An interracial romance novel is just like any other book in the sense that it’s a fictional piece of work that involves characters, a plot and a climax.  However, it’s my belief that fictional books should mirror “real life” yet provide a “fantastic sensationalism” that you don’t normally experience in day-to-day life.  And for those of us who have spent one weekend at home, bored , eating popcorn and watching reruns of Law-In-Order: SVU, you understand how “non-sensational” life can be.

Ivy’s Twisted Vine was a labor of love for me.  I’ve been in love with men of my race and men who were not of my race.  And the one thing that I found intriguing is that there is no mystery.  Love is just love.  It wraps you up and swallows you whole.  You try so hard not be swallowed and then one day, with no reasonable explanation, you find yourself totally, completely utterly in love. There is a new phenomenon, however, in America.  More and more authors are writing about interracial romances.

Since the Civil Rights Movement, people are actually living the dream of choosing to be with whom they like. Now, this does not come at all without consequence, but it’s a step in the right direction.    I am one of those writers who have an interest in exploring this genre of fictional writing. Before I can type this good, people are going to reply to me saying that I am pushing interracial relationships.  Well, I’m not.  Not really.  I’m pushing people choosing their mate based on their own personal expectations.  If the person is green with five legs and three ears and they make you feel as though your permanent residence is on cloud nine, then that is who you should be with… So, I’m supporting love in general.  And I want you to support me.

So, go out and purchase Ivy’s Twisted Vine on Valentine’s Day of 2008 for only $21.

Yours in IR Romance, Latrivia S. Nelson

Unconventional Love Story Creates Buzz in Memphis

Jacksonville, NC – October 25, 2007 – In the same city that Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated and Elvis Presley claimed as his home, a new star is emerging.  First-time author Latrivia S. Nelson is promoting her book, Ivy’s Twisted Vine.  While there have been hundreds of books to emerge from Memphis, this book promises a more clever look at a few of the city’s most taboo subjects: interracial dating, unplanned pregnancy and dirty
politics.

“I wanted to write a book that focused less on skin color and more on the character of a person, much like the great Dr. King would have wanted,” states Nelson.  On the contrary, this author does not give a conventional platform for interracial dating to be discussed.  Ivy’s Twisted Vine is a steamy romance that embodies extremely unconventional relationships between young adults. However, Nelson is convinced that these issues will be welcomed by the public and understood by the readers. This book comes in the wake of an extremely convenient time.

As Memphis embraces its African-American mayor, Willie Herenton for his eighth term in office, former Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. announces his engagement to his Caucasian girlfriend and the Memphis Police Department gears up to fight the city’s title as the nation’s leader in violent crime, spectators wonder if the book has any possible non-fiction roots.   “This book is truly a work of fiction and is based on the general whirlwind surrounding the city.  While Ivy’s Twisted Vine is meant to create intrigue, there is absolutely no connection to this book and any one specific person,” states Nelson.  However, there is room to wonder.  Nelson and her main character, Ivy,  both graduated from the only HBCU in Memphis, pledged to a sorority and were both college queens, but Nelson assures us that it’s purely coincidental and helps create more realistic characters.  Ivy’s Twisted Vine is about a college queen (Ivy Winters) who is dumped by her fiancé (Grey Henderson) while planning their wedding and finishing her final year of college.  In an effort to get over the breakup, she falls for an Italian cop heading a specialized unit formed by the mayor designed to take down the city’s biggest drug dealer.  However,  the mayor’s son, Grey Henderson  wants her back to help his image as he runs for his uncle’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in the next term. When Ivy and Grey reconcile, they discover that Ivy is pregnant, but the question is by whom?  All three people have to suffer through a crazy nine-month pregnancy before they discover the results of the paternity test.  And Ivy has to decide if she wants the love of her life or the man of her dreams.Ivy’s Twisted Vine will be available to order from Latrivia Nelson’s web site at www.latrivianelson.com and will be in select bookstores December 2007. Free media review copies will be available upon request.Latrivia S. Nelson is a professional fundraiser and native Memphian with many years experience working with numerous nonprofits nationwide. She says she was inspired to write her novel after realizing that the platform for discussion on interracial dating in
Memphis was still so tense after many years of continual efforts to create meaningful dialogue.
